Village Garden Club lends a Helping Hand

1The upcoming Savoring Sewickley event will be in full bloom with the help of the Village Garden Club. The Sewickley Civic Garden Council will be providing the floral arrangements for Savoring Sewickley again this year.  Friends of the Library member Nancy Rostek has served as the liaison between the Friends of the Library and Sewickley’s Village Garden Club. She has been a member of the Village Garden club since 2009. However, the collaboration between the Library and the Garden Club came about last spring when Sewickley’s Civic Garden Council President Alisa Lenhardt agreed to provide the flowers for this year’s Savoring Sewickley. They provided the flowers for last year’s event as well.

Dahlias and DogIn celebration of this fall event, the arrangements will mimic the rich colors of autumn. Fresh cut dahlias from Sewickley’s own Alpha Dahlias will take center stage in the arrangements.  Located on Camp Meeting Road, Alpha Dahlias is the creation of two Award winning Pittsburgh Artists, Evy Rogers and Joe Jacob. Their establishment only grows dahlias. Other flowers will accompany the dahlias and will be from Pittsburgh Cut Flowers. However, the true center piece will be ceramic pigs donning chef hats. These figurines will be the focal point of each arrangement.

From the minute the guest walk through the door of the library on Sunday night, they will be greeted with these stunning arrangements. Guests are encouraged to stop and appreciate the work put into these bouquets. Be sure to stop by the circulation desk and the reference desk to admire these beautiful creations!
